When I first discovered and quickly idolised Dylan, I was convinced he would die young like James Dean. Thank Whoever Is Supposed to be in Charge that he survived to this age and continued to produce works of genius. I saw him live in 1965, when he was still performing solo with acoustic guitar. However, many of the songs he performed later appeared electrified and electrifying on Bringin’ It All Back Home.
Another birthday boy today is Marshall Allen who is still working at 101.
Someone I knew who I used to have, let us say, spirited discussions with, once said that he, of course it would be a 'he,' thought it would have been better if Dylan had died in the motorcycle accident, then he could have gone down as a myth, like Dean. I was revulsed by the coldness and flippant nature of that statement, but this person was prone to say such things, it was a tactic to draw attention to himself. An academic, intellectual game. As you said, thank the lucky stars of fate or the energy cord that kept Bob here in the world.
Nice writing. I notice that when it's music you write about, you seem happy and energized. Maybe because music's the world that suckled you. Little baby Dylan.
I didn't know that, I guess you never talked about that, except maybe in passing. I mean I remember the family issues. Sorry. My Dad had died and our family was getting weird, but I separated and hung with friends, we had a band and that became our new reality. So yeah, music did save me, to some degree.
soundtrack of our lives ; )

Thanks. Yep, you could say that. It was the 60's, what was not to like?
I was pretty sad in the 60s. Sad family, bad boyfriend, lost soul. Only good thing for me was playing my guitar and wailing folk songs.
