Agree. Agree. Collecting just for bragging is so sad, so shallow. A guitar is worth what it feels like in my hands, how easy it is to play, how pretty is the wood, how deep and resonant are the vibrations in the room. A valuable guitar is one that makes me and my music partner happy, because it makes a pretty sound.

I am firmly in the 'nice if you have the money' camp. We'd all like guitars that once belonged to old so-and-so, but if you don't have the spare funds, it's just another guitar.

Love Dark Side of the Moon … not as familiar wth the others though one has the Battersea Power Station on the cover which was near where I started out in London and which figured in Huxley's BRAVE NEW WORLD.

I am a collector of things, but nothing in my collection goes unused.

this comment was supposed to be longer but I accidentally clicked post lol. I meant to continue that you make a great point, about the black strat being behind glass. It ought to be played, because it’s nice guitar. I collect vintage toys—people often tell me they’re worth more in the box. What good do they do in a box, though?
